Like us, Jose Mourinho has history against Wycombe. And, like us, he was made to fight all the way for victory.
That was back in the 2006/07 season, when Jose's Chelsea team were held to a 1-1 draw at Adams Park by Wycombe, then managed by Paul Lambert and in League Two, in the League Cup semi-final, first leg. Chelsea won the second leg 4-0 and went on to lift the trophy by beating Arsenal in the final.
Go back to February, 2017 and we were two minutes away from Wycombe, also still then in League Two, knocking us out of the FA Cup at the Lane. Wycombe led 2-0 and 3-2 that day until late goals from Dele and Heung-Min Son saw us home 4-3.
Now we meet again and for the first time competitively at Adams Park in the fourth round of the FA Cup over the weekend of 23/24 January*.
Led by Gareth Ainsworth, manager since 2012, Wycombe are now in the Championship following promotion from League Two to League One in 2017/18 and from League One last season.
Jose said: "I played Wycombe away in one of the cups before, and it’s not easy at all. The Championship is, of course, a very good level. In spite of them being in a difficult position in the Championship, you look at their results and all the results are draws, or lose 1-0, or lose 2-1, or win 1-0, so they belong to that level. For me, the Championship level is a very good level, so especially being away, this is a very difficult match, but we need to arrive and have a go."
* The winners of our tie will travel to either Everton or Sheffield Wednesday in round five in the midweek of 9-11 February. Further details regarding the scheduling of our fourth round tie at Wycombe will follow in due course..
