Davinson Sanchez had a simple message after the heartbreak of our FA Cup exit against Everton.

“We feel disappointed because we know we have the team to keep going, to fight for titles,” he said after the nine-goal thriller went Everton’s way. “That’s why we’re here. We have to keep pushing.”

Davinson scored twice in an exhilarating fifth round tie at Goodison Park. He opened the scoring as we dominated the first half-hour, but his second goal on 57 minutes levelled the tie at 3-3 after three goals in seven minutes saw us 3-1 down and on the back foot.

At 3-3, the odds looked tilted in our favour, but Everton would strike next through Richarlison on 68 minutes and we had to fight back again, this time Harry Kane levelling on 83 minutes to take the game into extra time. Everton then got ahead at 5-4, and we couldn’t find another leveller this time.

It’s a shame, because we’ve been working very well, everyone can see our mentality, that fighting spirit, we kept pushing

“It’s a shame, because we’ve been working very well, everyone can see our mentality, that fighting spirit, we kept pushing,” said Davinson. “We showed the mentality to come from behind and did everything to get in front. It’s disappointing because we wanted to keep going in the competition.”

The Colombian international hadn’t changed out of his kit as he spoke to us at Goodison, but was already looking ahead to Saturday’s Premier League clash against Manchester City at the Etihad (5.30pm).

“Saturday is another final, another big game,” he added. “We can’t continue thinking about this game. It’s a shame we can’t keep going in the FA Cup, but we have to get ready for Saturday. We have to keep going and hopefully we’ll arrive in the place everyone wants.”
