Shelina Zadorsky struck gold at the Olympics today (Friday 6 August) after Canada defeated Sweden on penalties in the women’s football final in Tokyo.

The Spurs Women captain - part of the Canucks squad that took Bronze at Rio 2016 - came off the bench in extra-time at the International Stadium Yokohama after a Jessie Fleming penalty had cancelled out Stina Blackstenius’ opener in normal time.

With the teams still unable to be separated after the additional 30 minutes of play, the showpiece was decided via a penalty shoot-out with Canada edging it 3-2. Shelina made three appearances for her nation on their run to gold at the games.

On Saturday, recent signing Bryan Gil will also look to win gold in Japan as Spain take on Brazil in the men’s final (kick-off 12.30pm UK).
