Newcastle draw ‘hard to take’ but we have to go again - Harry

Mon 05 April 2021, 14:09|Tottenham Hotspur

Frustration was the name of the game for Harry Kane after Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Newcastle.

We’d responded superbly to going a goal behind in the first half with Harry’s quickfire double turning the Premier League encounter around in our favour by half-time at St James’ Park.

Both teams had chances in the second half and the game was decided five minutes from time. We had a chance for 3-1 on the break and Harry was denied a hat-trick by the foot of the post. Within seconds, Newcastle had the ball in our net for the equaliser, ‘fine margins’, as Harry described afterwards.

“Whenever you are ahead in a game, as we have been a lot this season, and you give the lead away in the last five, 10 minutes, it’s always hard to take, especially against teams that you've had chances against and could have put the game away,” Harry reflected.

Look, we need to play better, it’s disappointing, but we have to dust ourselves off and go again next week

“I feel like we could have played better in the second half. We came out a bit sloppy... on the ball, without the ball, not as much intensity as we had at the end of the first half, then we didn't take our chances and got punished for it.

“We had some good chances, maybe the final ball or the final pass, the final touch wasn't quite there and 2-1 is always a risky scoreline... one cross, a couple of deflections and they got a goal, and it's always hard to respond with four, five minutes to go.

“Those are the fine margins. Look, we need to play better, it’s disappointing, but we have to dust ourselves off and go again next week.”

Manchester United are next at home on Sunday (11 April, 4.30pm).
