Heung-Min Son’s thoughts turned to the big screen as he described Gareth Bale’s crucial equaliser in our 2-1 win against Southampton on Wednesday evening.

Trailing 1-0 at half-time, we stepped up a gear in the second half to turn things around in Ryan Mason’s first match as Interim Head Coach.

Gareth’s goal was integral to our comeback. Pulling down a tricky ball on the right angle, he shifted left and floated a curler into the top corner. It had to be inch-perfect, and it was.

“It was like a nice movie with popcorn, that sweet,” said Sonny. “I’m so happy he scored again. We all know what Gareth can do and he needs just one of those chances.

“He did a fantastic job, worked for the team and that’s what we need - he’s a superstar but he works for the team, he worries about the team, he’s a fantastic guy as well. It was fully deserved.”

Sonny completed the turn around with an ice-cool penalty in the 90th minute, in doing so setting a personal best of 15 goals for a Premier League campaign, and moving us two within two points of Chelsea and West Ham in fourth and fifth, and five behind Leicester in third.

“It was really important that we scored a late goal and won the game for confidence, for atmosphere, and the lads did a really good job in the second half,” he added. “Everyone was down when we were 1-0 down, including me, really disappointed, but we came out in the second half and said, ‘let’s go’, the game wasn’t finished. The lads showed a really good attitude in the second half and we deserved the three points.”
