Jose Mourinho said we could only look at ourselves after Newcastle’s late equaliser cost us a win at St James’ Park on Sunday.

Both teams had chances, but the pivotal moment arrived five minutes from time. Leading 2-1, we broke from a Newcastle corner and Harry Kane was denied a hat-trick by the foot of the post.

You felt 3-1 and that would have been that but a minute later, Joe Willock levelled from close range and we were left thinking what might have been.

Joelinton had earlier fired Newcastle in front on 28 minutes but we responded impressively, with a quick one-two from Harry on 30 and 34 minutes handing us the advantage that we held until Willock’s late intervention.

Even with us dominating the game, even with the chance to score a third goal and kill it, we always manage to create some instability to ourselves.

“Even with us dominating the game, even with the chance to score a third goal and kill it, we always manage to create some instability to ourselves with mistakes we make,” said Jose.

“So, in the end, it’s a hard punishment, but maybe we deserved it, because we create instability to ourselves and when you create instability to the team, at the same time you give confidence and hope to the opponent to keep going and get that point.”
