Ahead of Friday night’s Premier League trip to Everton (8pm UK), we take a look at some of the key numbers behind the game.

Goodison perks

In recent years, we have enjoyed our Premier League visits to Everton, having gone nine years without defeat in the competition at Goodison Park. That is a run of seven games in which we have won four times and drawn three. In that time, front man Harry Kane has been especially useful, having scored six goals in his last six appearances at the home of the Toffees.

For Everton though, their Merseyside base hasn’t been a happy hunting ground as of late. In their last eight Premier League outings at their 128-year-old home, they have won just once (D2 L5) and in that period, they have scored just five times and never more than once in a single game. They have also kept just two clean sheets in their last 19 league games at Goodison Park.

Both home and away, Carlo Ancelotti’s side are without a win in four Premier League games (D2 L2). The last time the men in blue went five league games without a win was back in December, 2018. The fifth game in that run, coincidentally, was our last victory at Goodison Park - a memorable 6-2 triumph.

Son shines in Blues’ sky

This season, Heung-Min Son is well on his way to recording his best-ever goalscoring campaign in the Premier League. Despite the disappointment of Sunday’s 3-1 home defeat to Manchester United, Sonny had given us the lead in that encounter with his 14th league goal of season so far. That goal equalled his best tally for a Premier League campaign - also 14 in 2016/17.

In his recent appearances against Friday’s opponents, he has been heavily involved in our goalscoring output. In his last six games against the Toffees, the South Korean international has directly contributed to nine goals (three goals, six assists). Meanwhile, out of his 14 goals in the league this season, eight of them (57 per cent) have come away from home.

Goalfests

The last few meetings between us and Everton at Goodison Park have seen an abundance of goals. In just the last four encounters at the home of the Toffees in all competitions, 22 goals have been scored (14 for us and eight for Everton). That includes the nine that were scored in February’s 5-4 defeat to Carlo Ancelotti's side in the FA Cup. Harry Kane has found the target five times across those last four visits to Goodison (played three) while, in his last seven appearances against Everton, he has nine goals to his name, including four braces.

Last four at Goodison

10 February, 2021 – Everton 5-4 Spurs – FA Cup fifth round
3 November, 2019 – Everton 1-1 Spurs – Premier League
23 December, 2018 – Everton 2-6 Spurs – Premier League
9 September, 2017 – Everton 0-3 Spurs – Premier League

Promising precedents

Everton may have taken the spoils in the first meeting between the sides this season, as a Dominic Calvert-Lewin header separated the sides at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in September, but not since the 1985/86 season, 35 years ago, have the Toffees managed to complete a league double over us. That season, the Merseyside outfit were reigning First Division champions.

In the Premier League era, we have won more games against Everton than against any other side, taking all three points from them on 27 occasions. We have also kept more clean sheets against the Toffees (21) than versus any other side in the division. Hugo Lloris has overseen seven of those shutouts. Meanwhile, against no side has Jose Mourinho won more Premier League games in his career than he has against Everton (11 – joint with West Ham).
