Result 'not fair at all' but Pierre looks at the positives

Mon 28 September 2020, 12:24|Tottenham Hotspur

Sunday’s performance against Newcastle United ticked all the boxes for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg - but like everyone else of a Spurs persuasion, he was left floored by the result.

Lucas Moura’s goal felt scant reward for a sparkling first half display where we had 12 efforts at goal, Heung-Min Son struck the woodwork twice and goalkeeper Karl Darlow produced a string of top-drawer saves to deny Harry Kane three times and Gio Lo Celso.

Newcastle stepped up after the break, but were still kept at bay. Darlow denied Erik Lamela late on as the shot count rose to 23-5, and the points looked to be coming our way as we ticked into injury time.

It wasn’t to be though as a now well-documented handball decision went against us and Callum Wilson slotted from the penalty spot for 1-1, Newcastle’s first attempt on target in the 95th minute.

Everybody did well, everybody did what we worked on... the deficit, the difficult part of it, is the result, which is not fair at all

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Pierre reflected: “Everybody did well, everybody did what we worked on, as we promised each other, that was a great feeling. The deficit, the difficult part of it, is the result, which is not fair at all.

“With the ball, moving for each other and defensively, pressing, being aggressive when the opponent has the ball... everybody showed great work rate, and this is important in the team.

“It’s nice to have the ball but when the other team has the ball, we need to be on it, to be around them and great credit to everyone, we worked on stuff during the week and for a long time now and these things are coming out and that’s good, that’s a positive.

“What can you say about the result? It’s a tough one to take.

"Of course, there is disappointment not to get the win, but what is also very important now is to step up again, to analyse the game, put it aside and focus on the next game, which is very important, and then the next game after that and the next game after that because, like we have promised each other, we have a great desire in every game we play, every competition we are part of, we want to take it game by game and try to win game by game.”
