Davinson: “I know what playing for this Club demands”

Fri 04 September 2020, 13:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Davinson Sanchez knows what is expected of him as a Spurs player.

Now heading into his fourth season at the Club, having joined us from Ajax in 2017, the Colombian international is hoping for a better start to the 2020/21 campaign after describing the start to last term as 'tough'.

Nevertheless, Davinson added another 39 appearances in 2019/20, including 29 starts in the Premier League, taking him over the century mark for the Club. He helped us to seven of our 11 clean sheets and wants to make sure we get off to a strong start this time around.

With the campaign shortened due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic this year, plus additional fixtures as we bid to qualify for the group stage of the Europa League, Davinson expects a demanding 20/21, but he's ready to deliver.

It will be a tough season, but the start is going to be about confidence, winning games and getting to the Europa League group stage

“I’m training well, I’m feeling fine, I’m getting fit and I’m trying to get to my best form so I can show my best for the team because they need to see me at my best level," he explained.

“I also need to show that to the fans and my family. I know what I have to do, I know what is expected, I know what playing for this Club demands.

"The end of the 2018/19 season and start of the 2019/20 season was a bit tough for me but now I feel ready to go because I’ve done many things to help me improve and in lots of areas so I can be at my best for the people around me.

“As a team, we’re now at that point where we can look to improve and be better. We can’t repeat behaviours of last season. We have to change if we want success. We know the route we have to take. It will be a tough season, but the start is going to be about confidence, winning games and getting to the Europa League group stage.

"There is a lot of games and every stage of the campaign will be important, but you just have to keep going, be consistent and take as many points as you can.”
