Our regular, exclusive sit down with Jose Mourinho for Spurs TV, this time ahead of this evening's (Monday 6 July) Premier League clash against Everton at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (8pm).

1 - Reflection

Jose said in his pre-match press conference that the players were hurting after the manner of our defeat at Sheffield United on Thursday evening. What has been their reaction?

Jose: “I’m so hurt and so disappointed that I don’t believe they are not. But I think the best way to express that feeling is to play football again, and to make a difference in the attitude and intensity of the performance. Of course, we had a very special situation that probably completely changed the direction of the game, but independent of that, what we did wasn’t enough. I am critical of myself, I am critical of everyone that works with me, including the players, and I expect a reaction. We cannot promise a result, because football is football, but I can almost promise that from the attitude point of view, the team has to be different.”

2 - Response

What kind of response is Jose looking for against Everton this evening?

Jose: “As a start, I look for a response in the first minute of the game, because in the first minute of the game against Sheffield United we lost immediately a couple of second balls, and on 55 seconds or so they had a free shot on goal from outside the box. I hope we start immediately with a different feeling and that the players are there to compete, win the duels and be in the game.”

3 - Everton

Everton have picked up well since the Premier League’s return with a draw against Liverpool and wins against Norwich and Leicester. What is Jose expecting from the Blues?

Jose: “Everton are doing well. They have two victories and a draw, so seven points out of three matches. They are now involved in the fight for Europa League positions. They have everything for that. They have the coach, they have the players, so I consider them to be a high-level team and a difficult match for us.”

4 - Carlo Ancelotti

Jose is a big fan of the Everton manager...

Jose: “Everyone in football admires Carlo as a coach and as a person. If you don’t know him as a person, you know him as a coach and it’s not because I like him so much as person that I’m going to say the obvious, which is that he’s one of the top managers in the world in the last two decades, and now. It’s a privilege for the Premier League to have Carlo back, a privilege for Everton to have Carlo as their manager. As a manager, we all know him, and we don’t need to speak about him. His office, somewhere, is full of cups. As a person, I’ve had the privilege to know him for a few years, and I just love Carlo. He’s a fantastic guy."

5 - Targets

For Jose, a straightforward target for the rest of this season...

Jose: “We are a talented team, we have our ambitions. I want to say our ambition is to get 18 points. I’m not saying we’re going to reach fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, whatever - I prefer to say the objective is to try to get 18 points and we have to go for it.”
