Saints strike late to take FA Cup tie to replay

Southampton struck late at St Mary's to cancel out Heung-Min Son's strike and take our FA Cup fourth round tie to a replay.

Son finished clinically on 58 minutes after fantastic work from Giovani Lo Celso but in an end-to-end encounter, substitute Sofiane Boufal levelled with three minutes remaining.

We had chances, particularly in the first half, but Jose Mourinho later praised the home side for sticking to their guns and they also had chances before Boufal's equaliser.

We'll meet again at the new stadium in the replay on Wednesday 5 February, kick-off to be confirmed.

Gedson Fernandes made his first start with Japhet Tanganga and Davinson Sanchez back in the starting line-up for Erik Lamela, Ryan Sessegnon and Jan Vertonghen.

We had the better of an open first half. Son had the first sight of goal in the ninth minute, played in by Dele, he drilled just wide from the left angle. Dele almost broke through and then the home side went close as Tanganga blocked Kevin Danso's shot and Danny Ings failed to reach Michael Obafemi's cross sliding in.

Lo Celso was unfortunate not to open the scoring just before the half-hour. Dele backheeled the ball to the Argentine 16 yards out and his measured effort looked good for the corner but struck Son in an offside position and diverted home. Son couldn't get out of the way, goal disallowed.

Dele turned provider again after a one-touch break from deep, this time playing in Lucas Moura. It looked for all the world that he'd beaten Angus Gunn but the goalkeeper stretched out a leg and deflected the ball wide. Southampton responded with their best chance. James Ward-Prowse clipped a quick free-kick to Ings, he lofted over advancing Hugo Lloris but Tanganga was there with a flying header off the line.

The second half started in similar fashion with chances at both ends. Lucas hit a free-kick straight at Gunn, Ings touched Danso's cross just wide and then we struck. It all started with Lo Celso, who left five players in his wake in a run from deep. He rolled to Erik Lamela, Lamela found Son and the South Korean drilled low across Gunn into the corner.

Son got in again on 63 minutes, latching onto Lo Celso's clever pass and volleying over. Lamela almost sent him clear again but Gunn rushed out of his area to clear.

Southampton made two quick changes with 15 minutes remaining and started to force us back. Ings curled wide and then missed the target with a header from Nathan Redmond's cross, a good chance. The in-form striker made amends on 87 minutes, turning provider for his side's equaliser, his cut back from the left channel rammed into the roof of the net by Boufal.

Key moment

Early chances, maybe Son not being able to get out of the way of Lo Celso's goal-bound shot and therefore the 'goal' being ruled out for offside, but the key moment has to be Boufal's equaliser, just when you thought we might hold on for a win. Instead, we'll do it all again...

Jose's view

Jose Mourinho said: "Southampton kept that intensity for the 90 minutes and we didn't manage to kill the game. We had big chances in the first half, didn't score, scored in the second half and after that, we had the space to kill the game but we don't have the fresh legs to do it. Some players - Giovani, Lucas, Sonny - the last 15 minutes was difficult for them. It's not a drama for us. It's not good that we have to play one more match, but let's go at home."
