Club supports Level Playing Field Weeks of Action 2020

Fri 28 February 2020, 13:00|Tottenham Hotspur

We are pleased to support the Level Playing Field Weeks of Action 2020, which take place from 29 February to 15 March. The annual initiative, now in its 16th year, celebrates access and inclusion for disabled sports fans across England and Wales.

Level Playing Field is a campaigning and advisory organisation working on behalf of all disabled supporters to share good practice, raise awareness and promote improved access to sports stadia for disabled fans who aspire to attend live sporting events.

With equality and inclusion at the heart of everything we do as a Club, Weeks of Action provides an opportunity to highlight the ongoing work we do to support our disabled fans and those living with disabilities in the local community.

Our stadium is fully compliant with the Accessible Stadia Guide and exceeds standards in many areas. For example, in addition to dedicated accessible entrances, the stadium has accessible seating and wheelchair spaces in all stands, including our single tier South Stand. It also includes three Changing Places facilities for fans with more complex needs, which have more space and equipment than standard accessible toilets.

Located in the stadium’s North Stand, our Sensory Suite offers a comfortable and calming environment for supporters on the autistic spectrum or with sensory impairment conditions to watch matches. The room is complete with a tactile wall, a bubble tube and several other pieces of sensory equipment.

The Club also continues to work closely with SpursAbility, our Disabled Supporters’ Association which represents and promotes the views of disabled fans, to ensure they have a positive experience at home and away matches.

Jo McNicol, SpursAbility Chairperson, said: “The stadium’s access facilities are amazing because they enable me and other disabled supporters to enjoy the full matchday experience, just as any other fan would.

“The Club has maintained a consistent dialogue with SpursAbility right from when these facilities were first being designed, which shows how much it cares about meeting the needs of all fans.”

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, the Club’s charitable arm, runs a range of programmes that are designed to help people with physical and learning disabilities living in the local area gain regular access to sport and physical activity.

As part of our support for Weeks of Action 2020, one lucky One Hotspur Member will get the opportunity to join the audio-descriptive commentary team for the Wolves game, who provide match commentary for our visually impaired fans.
