New signing Aurora Mikalsen: “I’m loving it!”

New goalkeeper Aurora Mikalsen says Spurs Women can “surprise” teams when the 2020/21 Barclays FA Women’s Super League campaign kicks off next month.

Aurora arrived at the Club last month as Karen Hills and Juan Amoros strengthened their squad with the addition of the Norwegian shot-stopper, following the signings of former Birmingham City players Kerys Harrop and Rachel Williams.

“After leaving Manchester United, I was looking for another club and then I had contact with Karen (Hills) and Juan (Amoros),” said Aurora, who spent last season playing in the north west with the Red Devils. “The move happened quite fast to be honest, from the phone call, to discussing next season and now here I am. I’m loving it at the moment, the weather is nice and I’m living with Chloe Peplow and Rosella Ayane who are taking good care of me.”

On her hopes for next season, Aurora said: “I think we can do well. I really like the way we want to play and how we’re going to defend. I think we can maybe surprise a bit and hopefully we can keep developing, working hard each day and we’ll see where we end up.”

With an impressive Spurs fan base in Norway, Aurora, who was born in Kristiansund, said her move to N17 has been received well by her family and friends back home.

“Everyone is really positive, proud, and I am really happy that the move was possible,” she continued. “I’ve received a lot of messages from different people who I haven’t spoken to in years, and friends and family who are really proud so I can’t wait to get started.”

When asked about what qualities she possesses in between the sticks, Aurora said: “I have a good presence, good communication with defenders, good distribution and of course my shot-stopping. I think I can learn a lot from Miles Leighton (goalkeeping coach) so I’m looking forward to working with him.”
