Jenna Schillaci’s all-time Spurs Women XI

Sun 05 April 2020, 10:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Twelve seasons at the Club, our skipper Jenna Schillaci has played alongside plenty of gifted players who she’s enjoyed much success with on the pitch, so when we asked her to select her all-time Spurs Women starting line-up, it’s no wonder she found the challenge somewhat impossible.

“I’d choose all the players if I could!” smiled the captain as she agonised over who to include.

GK: Toni-Anne Wayne

Jenna: "Toni is a true leader and a very talented goalkeeper who made some incredible saves throughout her time with us to help us progress through the leagues. She may be one of the scariest players on the pitch, but she is the nicest person off it."

RB: Ashleigh Neville

Jenna: "Ash has continued to grow, I feel she is one of the best right backs in the WSL and she has a big future ahead of her. She is the complete defender in my eyes, dangerous going forward and dominates in defence with a great aerial presence. She scored two identical headers for us in our 3-2 away win against Charlton last season and those goals proved to be vital in the race for promotion. Not to mention her goal-line clearance at Aston Villa on the night that we secured our place in the top flight."

CB: Samantha Pittuck

Jenna: "I have some amazing memories with Sam - she was the first captain I played under at Spurs. She is a player with a wealth of experience, committed and versatile - she could play in any position all over the pitch. She defended with everything she had and very few attackers got past her."

CB: Jenna Schillaci

LB: Siri Worm

Jenna: "Wormsie is the set-piece specialist and a true professional who inspires me every day. She is usually the last player off the training pitch as she’ll be practising her set pieces and you can see this season that her hard work is beginning to pay off. She is the best one-v-one defender I have played with and she’s helped me develop my game, probably without even realising it."

RM: Jess Naz

Jenna: "Jess is a raw talent who makes everything look so easy. So dangerous in attack, she glides past defenders with ease sometimes. She’s scored some quality and crucial goals for us - the most memorable one being her goal against Aston Villa last season that secured promotion to the WSL – it was an unbelievable finish from a free-kick. Jess is still so young too, with the world at her feet. I am so excited to watch her journey in the game."

CM: Rachel Furness

Jenna: "My playing time with Furney was short and sweet but she made the biggest impact on and off the pitch for us. She has a wealth of experience and she shared that with us daily in training. A true professional and a leader, she wrote her name in our history books by scoring our first goal in our first win in the WSL against Liverpool."

CM: Josie Green

Jenna: "I have shared the pitch with Josie for around five years now, again she is another player who I have had the pleasure of watching grow as a player and a person. She’s not one to shy away from a crunching tackle and a player who leads and gives 110 per cent in everything she does. She would be one of the first on my team sheet every week."

LM: Bianca Baptiste

Jenna: "I played alongside Bianca for nine seasons at the Club and we created so many unforgettable memories during that time. She has frightening pace, is clinical in front of goal and has the ability to break down any defence. I am forever thankful I never had to play against her!"

ST: Wendy Martin

Jenna: "Wendy is a legend for us and was our top scorer for many seasons. She is the ultimate professional and role model. She would always go the extra mile to ensure she was the best she could be. She is another player who has scored some crucial goals for us and played a vital part in the team climbing through the leagues. We have so many good memories that I’ll never forget."

ST: Kit Graham

Jenna: "Having spent around five seasons marking Kit when she used to play at Charlton, it’s great to finally have her on the same team because she is honestly a nightmare to play against. Her hold-up play and strength on the ball is the best around and her left foot is deadly!"
