Gemma Davison: “We want to make our fans proud!”

Tue 03 September 2019, 10:30|Tottenham Hotspur

Forward Gemma Davison says she can’t wait to meet the Spurs fans when we play Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday (8 September).

It will be a historic occasion for the Club – our first game in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League (WSL), against a side who are no strangers to Gemma.

A former Chelsea player, Gemma won the title twice with the Blues in 2015 and 2018 but playing against her former side isn’t unfamiliar for the 32-year-old, having competed against them while at Reading last season.

“It’s such exiting times and it’s amazing for the women’s game, there’s going to be a big crowd there and I can’t wait to see the Spurs fans,” Gemma said.

“I played a big part at Chelsea and I have a lot of respect for them but I’m here now at Spurs and ready to go out and do my best for this club.”

It will be the second time she has been involved in a game played at the Bridge – her first, while representing Chelsea, ended in a 3-0 defeat in the Champions League against Wolfsburg in October, 2016.

Gemma played 45 minutes for Emma Hayes’ side that night in front of a crowd of 3,783 – almost five times that number are expected for Sunday’s London derby.

“I’ve played at high-profile stadiums before and in front of a lot of big crowds, I thrive off it,” she continued.

“We’ll go out there and give it our all, we’ve got high standards at this club and we want to make our fans proud.”

Not many women’s players will have been in the home and away dressing rooms at Stamford Bridge, but come Sunday, Gemma will be making some history of her own.
