Olympic great Michael Johnson visits Hotspur Way

Michael Johnson, one of the greatest athletes of all-time, met with Mauricio Pochettino to share sporting knowledge and ideals at Hotspur Way on Tuesday.

Four-time Olympic gold medallist and eight-time world champion, the US sprinter dominated the 200m and 400m events throughout the 1990s up to his final Olympic title in the 400m in Sydney in 2000. He remains the only man to win both 200m and 400m events in one Olympics, achieved in Atlanta in 1996.

Previously world record holder in both 200m and 400m, Michael ran the final leg of a 4x400m relay in 1993 that remains the fastest time for that event over 25 years on.

“Mauricio is always searching for ways to continue to get excellence out of players,” said Michael, now a popular pundit for the BBC. “My performance training company has had a long relationship with Nike and, of course, Nike have a partnership with Spurs as well, so we feel a synergy there and we can share knowledge of what the club is trying to do from a performance standpoint as well as what we are trying to do to help athletes get better and reach their potential.”
