Malachi off to Under-17 Euros

Young defender Malachi Walcott has been named in the England Under-17 squad for the 2019 European Under-17 Championship finals, which begin this week in Ireland.

The 17-year-old centre-back, who has featured for our Under-18s this season and also played for the Under-19s in the UEFA Youth League, has joined up with the Young Lions ahead of their group stage opener against France in Longford on Friday evening (7pm).

England then face the Netherlands at Tolka Park in Dublin on Monday 6 May (3pm) before battling Sweden at Whitehall Stadium in the same city on Thursday 9 May (4.30pm).

These Euro finals also act as a gateway for qualification for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup, with five places up for grabs to represent Europe at the competition in Brazil later this year.
