Moussa Sissoko made his first start for France for two years - but it was a night to forget for the World Cup winners in Euro 2020 qualifying against Turkey.
Two goals in 10 minutes in the first half from Kaan Ayhan and Cengiz Under secured a deserved 2-0 win for Turkey at the Torku Arena in Group H. Hugo Lloris captained the French and needed to be at his best to prevent a greater margin of defeat in the second half, producing fine saves to deny Burak Yilmaz, Kenan Karaman and Mahmut Tekdemir. It was Hugo's 111th cap. Moussa also completed 90 minutes on his 57th appearance.
It was mixed fortunes for our players in Euro 2020 qualifying on Saturday.
Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld started in a back three with Vincent Kompany for Belgium and both completed the 90 minutes in a comfortable 3-0 win against Kazakhstan in Brussels. Belgium top Group I with three wins out of three. It was Jan's 113th cap, Toby's 91st.
Staying in Group I, Anthony Georgiou looked like he might rescue a point for Cyprus against Scotland when his corner provided a late equaliser for Ioannis Kousoulos in the 87th minute at Hampden Park only for Oliver Burke to win it a minute later.
Ben Davies started at left-back as Wales suffered a 2-1 loss at Croatia in Group E. He almost equalised in the first half following up Will Vaulks' shot but an earlier own goal and Ivan Perisic's strike just after the break was enough for the hosts in Osijek.
