Mauricio Pochettino took exactly what he needed from our first match of the summer in the International Champions Cup (ICC) - with the icing on the cake a world-class winner to topple Juventus in Singapore.
Harry Kane delivered the knockout blow just seconds from the end of an entertaining encounter against the Italian champions.
Nothing looked on when Lucas Moura dispossessed Adrien Rabiot just inside our half but Harry was onto it in a flash and pinged a first-time lob over Wojciech Szczesny, who could only watch the ball sail over his head and home as he scrambled to get back.
“It was an unbelievable goal and Harry is the class of player that when he’s out on the pitch, that situation can happen,” said Mauricio.
“That’s why he’s one of the best strikers in the world. I’m happy for him because after the Champions League Final, to start pre-season in the first game and to score a goal like this is going to give him confidence and that’s always good for the team.”
The senior players and the youngsters were fantastic... we need to be happy because everyone finished in good condition
That wasn’t all as we impressed in front of over 50,000 fans at the Singapore National Stadium.
Tanguy Ndombele provided a sublime assist for Lucas Moura to make it 2-2 within a minute of coming on for his Spurs debut. Troy Parrott and Japhet Tanganga both started and Jack Roles and Harvey White came on in the second half, all making their first appearances for the first team. Indeed, there were 11 Academy graduates on show including Harry Kane and Harry Winks.
“I’m very happy,” added Mauricio. “The performance was very good. The priority wasn’t to win but it’s always nice to win and to beat a team like Juventus.
“I’m happy with the youngsters and for a lot of players to make their debuts was a fantastic opportunity. It was a team with a lot of youngsters and both the senior players and the youngsters were fantastic. We need to be happy because everyone finished in good condition.”
