Remembering 13 late, late winners in the Premier League...

Mon 21 January 2019, 17:27|Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Winks was our last-minute hero on Sunday as he popped up in the final few seconds of the game to seal our 2-1 win at Fulham.

We've enjoyed quite a few dramatic late winners in recent years on the Premier League stage - here are just a few of our favourites...

Paul Stalteri v West Ham – 94th minute

West Ham 3-4 Spurs - 4 March, 2007

We emerged on the right side of this seven-goal thriller as Paul Stalteri ran the entire length of the pitch in the final minute of the game to bag the winner at Upton Park.

We had found ourselves 2-0 down at half-time with Mark Noble and Carlos Tevez giving the home side a comfortable advantage. It was all square within 18 minutes of the restart, however, as Jermain Defoe and Teemu Tainio both found the target. The Hammers would then retake the lead through Bobby Zamora but again, we managed to get back on terms as Dimitar Berbatov curled in his free-kick with just a minute to go.

We would then go and put ourselves in front for the first time in the game - and just in the nick of time - as, after receiving possession in his own box, Stalteri laid the ball off for Defoe, the striker’s shot was parried by Rob Green but only into the path of the on-rushing Stalteri who tapped into an empty net.

Roman Pavlyuchenko v Liverpool - 91st minute

Spurs 2-1 Liverpool - 2 November, 2008

After a tough start to the 2008/09 campaign, we climbed off the foot of the table thanks to Roman Pavlyuchenko’s late winner against Liverpool at White Hart Lane. Dirk Kuyt had given the Reds an early lead as he fired home with only three minutes on the clock, but we found our way back into the game, as Jamie Carragher headed into his own net.

The away side spurned plenty of chances to regain the lead but when Pavlyuchenko received Darren Bent’s cross just five yards from the goal, the Russian striker was never going to miss, sealing a big win in one of Harry Redknapp's first games in charge.

Aaron Lennon v Liverpool – 92nd minute

Spurs 2-1 Liverpool - 28 November, 2010

Redknapp’s bright start to his second full season in charge continued as Aaron Lennon provided the late drama with a fine finish to defeat Liverpool on home soil.

The Reds had taken the lead through Martin Skrtel but, after Defoe had missed a penalty, the Slovakian defender put the ball in the back of the net for a second time, although this time at the wrong end.

In the dying moments of the game, we found our winner as Benoit Assou-Ekotto’s long, searching ball was flicked on by Peter Crouch into the path of Lennon, who kept his cool to slot it home past Pepe Reina.

Gareth Bale v West Ham – 90th minute

West Ham 2-3 Spurs - 25 February, 2013

We came from 2-1 down at Upton Park to win 3-2, thanks to a 30-yard thunderbolt from Gareth Bale. The Welsh international had given us the lead inside 13 minutes but we were pegged back 12 minutes later as Andy Carroll converted from the spot.

Joe Cole then gave the home side the lead just before the hour mark but we managed to get ourselves back on terms soon after, as Gylfi Sigurdsson poked the ball past Jussi Jaaskelainen with a quarter-of-an-hour still to play.

With full-time looming, we would find a winner in sensational style and it would come from the inside of Bale’s left boot as he wrapped it around the ball and watched it sail into the top right-hand corner of the net.

Gylfi Sigurdsson v Southampton – 92nd minute

Spurs 3-2 Southampton - 23 March, 2014

It was a remarkable comeback at the Lane as we recovered from 2-0 down against Southampton to win through Gylfi Sigurdsson’s late strike.

Jay Rodriguez and Adam Lallana had given the Saints a commanding lead inside 28 minutes, but that advantage was quickly halved as Christian Eriksen scored from close range.

The Dane then brought us level just a minute into the second half before he teed up Sigurdsson in the final moments of the game, who rifled the ball home from 25 yards.

Eric Dier v West Ham – 93rd minute

West Ham 0-1 Spurs - 8 August, 2014

Future England international Eric Dier gave Mauricio Pochettino the perfect start to his Spurs managerial career as he fired home a stoppage-time winner at West Ham United in the boss' first game in charge.

Each side had a man sent off and Mark Noble missed a penalty in the first half as the game looked to be heading to a stalemate.

That was until the final seconds as Dier was sent through by Harry Kane and, after the debutant rounded the goalkeeper, he rolled the ball over the line to send the away end into delirium.

Harry Kane v Aston Villa – 90th minute

Aston Villa 1-2 Spurs - 2 November, 2014

It was a landmark moment for Harry Kane as he stepped up to the task from the bench and delivered us a moment to savour as we sealed a late turnaround in the West Midlands.

We had started slowly at Villa Park and were behind within 16 minutes as Andreas Weimann stabbed in Charles N’Zogbia’s cross. Villa held that lead until half-time but when Christian Benteke was dismissed in the second period for violent conduct, we started to press for an equaliser.

We notched a leveller through Nacer Chadli with just four minutes to go before Kane stepped up to whip in a free-kick and seal a dramatic turnaround.

Christian Eriksen v Hull City – 90th minute

Hull City 1-2 Spurs - 23 November, 2014

We moved into the Premier League’s top 10 thanks to Eriksen's late winner against Hull City at the KC Stadium.

Former Spur Jake Livermore had fired the home side into the lead with just shy of 10 minutes on the clock but when Gaston Ramirez was sent off early in the second half, the game changed in our favour.

Kane had us back on terms with half-an-hour still to play as he tapped in the rebound after Eriksen’s free-kick had hit the post. The Danish playmaker was not to be denied again, though, as, with just seconds remaining, he picked out the bottom corner from range to fire us to a much-needed win.

Christian Eriksen v Swansea City – 89th minute

Swansea City 1-2 Spurs - 14 December, 2014

After a slow start to the 2014/15 season, we were beginning to pick up the pace in the festive period and moved to within four points of the top four with a late win over Swansea.

We had taken an early lead in South Wales as Kane headed us in front with just four minutes gone. We couldn’t press home that advantage, however, and were subsequently pegged back as Wilfried Bony levelled for the hosts, just moments after the break.

We were not to be denied the victory at the Liberty Stadium, however, as Eriksen found space in the box in the last minute to squeeze the ball past Gerhard Tremmel in the rain.

Heung-Min Son v Watford – 89th minute

Watford 1-2 Spurs - 28 December, 2015

Erik Lamela opened the scoring at Vicarage Road as he scampered through the Hornets' back line to slot the ball past Heurelho Gomes. The home side levelled just after the break though as Odion Ighalo battled his way past Eric Dier to tuck the ball away.

But when Watford were reduced to 10 men following Nathan Ake’s red card, we pressed home the advantage and with time running out, Heung-Min Son flicked home Kieran Trippier’s cross in front of a jubilant away end.

Heung-Min Son v Swansea City – 91st minute

Swansea City 1-3 Spurs - 5 April, 2017

Having been 1-0 down on 87 minutes, we somehow turned the game on its head at the Liberty Stadium with three goals in six minutes.

Wayne Routledge had given Swansea the lead on 11 minutes as the former Spur tapped in Jordan Ayew’s cross.

The home side would hold onto that lead for 77 minutes until Dele Alli popped up at the back post to get us level with just minutes remaining. It only took another 132 seconds for us to find our winner as Son slotted past Lukasz Fabianski before Christian Eriksen made sure of the win later in stoppage time.

Christian Eriksen v Burnley – 91st minute

Spurs 1-0 Burnley - 15 December, 2018

Back in December of this season, Eriksen came off the bench to fire us to victory over Burnley and make it 21 league games without a draw.

Just four days prior, we'd scored late on in Barcelona to seal our progress in the Champions League, and it was again the case that we had to wait until the final moments for that crucial goal against a stubborn visiting side.

The Clarets had remained resolute throughout the game and looked on course for a draw but, on 91 minutes, Kane set up Eriksen who fired past Joe Hart at his near post.

Harry Winks v Fulham – 93rd minute

Fulham 1-2 Spurs - 20 January, 2019

And so to Sunday's drama...

We were without a number of players for the trip to Craven Cottage, but it was young midfielder Harry Winks who came up with the goods.

After falling behind through Fernando Llorente’s own goal in the first period, we pushed for an equaliser and deservedly found it through Dele’s second-half header.

Fulham were strong at the back but just as we looked to be heading for a draw, Georges-Kevin Nkoudou produced a superb cross that was nodded in from close range by Winks to earn three important points.
