On-loan Connor Ogilvie was part of one of the big shocks of FA Cup third round weekend, helping League One side Gillingham scalp Premier League Cardiff City 1-0 at Priestfield.
The left-back, who last week saw his loan deal with the Gills extended until the end of the season, has been a regular starter for the Kent club since November, having struggled for game time in the opening months of the campaign.
He once again played the full 90 minutes against the men from South Wales on Saturday to help book his team’s place in round four.
On the continent, attacking midfielder Samuel Shashoua continues to start frequently for Spanish Segunda Division B side Atlético Baleares and played his part in a 2-0 home win over Hercules on Sunday. He’s scored three goals for his loan club to date, the most recent of which was in a 2-1 loss at Villarreal B, and only missed one game since making his debut at the start of September – a trip to CD Ebro in mid-November.
Fellow midfielder Marcus Edwards returned to first team action for Dutch side Excelsior Rotterdam in the last game before their winter break, playing the last 26 minutes of a 3-0 home defeat to Heracles Almelo in the Eredivisie. That was the first time he’d seen first team action since starting in a 4-2 home defeat by FC Groningen at the beginning of November, although he did feature in a 4-1 win for Excelsior’s Under-21s at ADO Den Haag 10 days after that. Excelsior resume their Eredivisie campaign at Vitesse on 18 January.

Spurs players currently out on loan
Cameron Carter-Vickers – Swansea City
Samuel Shashoua – Atletico Baleares
Marcus Edwards – Excelsior Rotterdam
Josh Onomah – Sheffield Wednesday
Connor Ogilvie – Gillingham
In the Championship, Josh Onomah hasn’t played for Sheffield Wednesday since being withdrawn during the second half of the club’s 1-0 victory at Middlesbrough on Boxing Day. With 11 sporadic appearances under his belt so far for the Owls, he’s soon to be reunited with Steve Bruce, who was his boss during his loan spell at Aston Villa last season, with the latter set to take over the managerial reins at Hillsborough at the start of February.
Centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers has played in seven of Swansea City’s last eight games in the same division, starting four of those, but missed out on the chance to go head-to-head with Josh when Wednesday visited the Liberty Stadium on 15 December as he was introduced as a half-time substitute, while Josh was substituted at the same time, having started for the away side. Swansea won 2-1.
Cameron didn’t feature in the Swans’ 3-1 FA Cup win at Villa on Saturday.
