Wed 27 February 2019, 14:48|Tottenham Hotspur

Three young people taking part in the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation’s ground-breaking Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) Award scheme have been presented with their Gold Award by HRH The Earl of Wessex at a special celebration event at St James’ Palace this week.

Rochelle Anderson, Jadon Anderson and James Turner - pictured above with Foundation mentors Kieran Bryant (left) and Omari Chambers-Alert - all completed their DofE Gold Award through the Foundation, which is funded by the Club, after completing a series of complex and challenging activities promoting leadership, teamwork and organisational skills while providing experience of setting and achieving goals.

For the past seven decades, the DofE has inspired and transformed the lives of millions of young people from all walks of life. From volunteering to physical activities, the DofE aims to equip participants with the skills valued by employers and universities.

We look forward to seeing many more young people complete the Award to all standards in the coming years.

Over the last four years, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation has engaged nearly 300 young people in its delivery of the DofE programme and is considered one of the top non-school licence holders for the programme in London. In 2017, Tottenham Hotspur was recognised as the first Premier League Club to achieve a Gold DofE Award after nine participants completed the course.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme is one of the many programmes Tottenham Hotspur Foundation delivers to equip young people with skills that are highly regarded by employers and will work in favour of participants when they come to apply for jobs in the future.

Donna-Maria Cullen, Executive Director, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and Chair of Trustees, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, said: “I should like to congratulate Rochelle, Jadon and James on this fantastic achievement, along with all participants who have taken part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award through the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation.

“We recognise that the Award has long been held in the highest regard by employers and top universities across the country, which is why the Club is proud to support the scheme as part of our continued drive to equip our young people with transferable life skills and help them get into work or further education.

“We look forward to seeing many more young people complete the Award to all standards in the coming years and give themselves the best possible opportunity of a successful future.”
