Midlands football reporter for the Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph, John Percy keeps a close eye on all things Leicester City and was at the KP for the Foxes’ narrow loss to Manchester United last time out. Here, John gives us the lowdown on Claude Puel's men ahead of Sunday’s clash at Wembley in our latest 'Preview from the Press Box'.
Leicester’s form
John: "They are madly inconsistent. You’ve seen the results against the likes of Chelsea (won 1-0 at Stamford Bridge), Manchester City (won 2-1 at home) and Liverpool (drew 1-1 at Anfield) and you think that’s the foundation they can build on and challenge for seventh, and then they do this annoying thing where they lose at home to the likes of Cardiff and Southampton. They are a really unpredictable team."
Key players
John: "The key man for Leicester remains Jamie Vardy. They have spent millions on strikers since winning the Premier League and it still goes back to the lad they got for a million from Fleetwood. He’s their talisman. Claude Puel is trying to introduce a possession-based approach but they seem better on the counter-attack and that brings the best out of Vardy. Another key man is Harvey Barnes, a young midfielder, he was the best player against United last Sunday and he did well on loan at West Brom before being recalled. He’s one to watch, definitely. Harry Maguire will also be key at the back because even though Harry Kane is missing, he’ll still have his hands full with Heung-Min Son."
Key area
John: “I think we’re looking at midfield. Leicester play with two midfielders in front of the defence, Nampalys Mendy and Wilfred Ndidi, but those two have been off the boil in recent weeks and it will be interesting to see if Puel gives a debut to Youri Tielemans, the recent loan signing from Monaco. I’d be surprised if he doesn’t and he may well come into it now he’s had a full week of training. I would guess Tielemans would come in for Mendy but he’s a more creative midfielder, so perhaps they’ll change the system to a 4-4-2 from the 4-2-3-1 they have been playing.”
Prediction
John: “I’m going to go 3-2 to Spurs. I can see it being high-scoring again and, as usual, it just depends which Leicester turns up!”
