'Great opportunity' for Chelsea redemption - Lucas

Wed 27 February 2019, 11:50|Tottenham Hotspur

Lucas Moura believes tonight's trip to Chelsea is a great chance for him to put the agony of his Stamford Bridge penalty miss behind him.

Last month, in our Carabao Cup semi-final defeat to the Blues, after Eric Dier had failed to convert his spot-kick in the shoot-out, Lucas saw his effort saved by Kepa Arrizabalaga as we went down 4-2 on a disappointing night in west London.

Now, as we prepare to return to the Bridge for a mouth-watering Premier League clash, the Brazilian forward feels he has the sort of chance football gives you to put things right.

“Those things happen in football,” he explained. “Of course, it was very difficult for me.

The most important thing is that in football, you always have the opportunity to do differently and to do better.

“It was sad because we wanted to play in the final, to win a trophy and it was one way to win a trophy. We lost and I was very sad, but it happens.

“I need to keep strong in my head. The most important thing is that in football, you always have the opportunity to do differently and to do better.

“Tonight is a great opportunity to play a great game and win, and to keep running for the top places in the league. It's true it is difficult, but we believe we can win our games."

The trip to the Bridge follows quickly on from a frustrating defeat against Burnley on Saturday.

Despite Harry Kane scoring on his return to the side following his injury lay-off, goals from Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes were enough to send us home from Lancashire empty-handed.

But now, in what is a massive week with the north London derby against Arsenal and our Champions League round of 16 return leg at Borussia Dortmund still to come, Lucas knows we must put the Clarets defeat behind us and start the week rolling with a good result against the Blues.

“It's a massive game in a massive week, it’s true,” he admitted. “It will be difficult. I think in the home game in November (3-1 win), we did very well. We are ready to play another great game and to win there.

“Against Burnley it was a good opportunity to keep close to Liverpool and Manchester City. It was a key game but unfortunately we lost.

“The situation is difficult now, but we also have games against both Liverpool and City and we never know what will happen, so we need to believe, we need to keep working and to win the games, then see what happens.

“It could be an important three points tonight. Let’s try, let’s fight. I believe we can get a good result.”
