Everything on... Burnley

We return to action after 10 days without a game on Saturday lunchtime as we head north to Lancashire to take on Burnley in the Premier League.

On our last visit to Turf Moor in December, 2017, Harry Kane fired home a hat-trick to seal a 3-0 win over the Clarets.

Team news

Burnley manager Sean Dyche is expecting to have wingers Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Robbie Brady back for Saturday's clash after they missed their side's last Premier League outing against Brighton.

Former Spur Aaron Lennon and midfielder Steven Defour remain unavailable for Dyche, however, as they continue with their recoveries from knee and calf injuries respectively.

Another legendary former Spur could feature, though, with Peter Crouch having returned to the Premier League to sign for the Clarets from Stoke City in January. He's made one substitute appearance for them so far, in a 1-1 home draw with Southampton at the start of this month.

One to watch

With four goals in the bag already since the turn of the year, striker Ashley Barnes has enjoyed a productive start to 2019.

Alongside New Zealand international Chris Wood at the forefront of the Clarets’ attack, the duo have been essential in Dyche’s side’s unbeaten run in the league since the end of December - they have won four and drawn three of their last seven games.

Beginning his professional career with local club Paulton Rovers, Somerset-born Barnes went on to have spells with Plymouth Argyle, Oxford United, Salisbury, Eastbourne Borough, Torquay United and Brighton & Hove Albion before he moved to Lancashire in January, 2014.

Since arriving in the north west, the 29-year-old has played his part in getting Burnley promoted to the Premier League twice and, since the second of those achievements in 2016, the striker has scored 22 goals and helped his team qualify for their inaugural Europa League campaign in 2018.

Previous clash

Back in December, against a resolute Burnley side, we had to wait until the dying minutes of the game to grab a last-gasp winner via the right boot of Christian Eriksen.

On that wet and windy Saturday afternoon at Wembley, 18-year-old Oliver Skipp made his full Premier League debut partnering Moussa Sissoko in the centre of midfield.

We probed and passed our way through the first period to little avail with Erik Lamela having our best effort of the opening exchanges - a one-on-one with Joe Hart in which the England international came out on top.

Hart would again prevent Erik from breaking the deadlock in the second half as he palmed away the Argentine’s point-blank strike but then, with just seconds left to play, Harry Kane teed up Christian who curled home from close range in added time to seal all three points.

Burnley’s form

It has been a great start to 2019 for Dyche’s side as they currently sit on a run of just one defeat in nine games in all competitions.

After suffering a 5-1 home defeat at the hands of Everton, the Clarets won three league games on the bounce which would lift them three points clear of the drop zone.

Three consecutive draws in the top flight was followed by an important away win at Brighton last time out to maintain their position in 15^th.

Magic moment

Striker Harry led from the front as he bagged a hat-trick in Lancashire in our last visit to Turf Moor.

The England captain opened his account from the spot on seven minutes, sending goalkeeper Nick Pope the wrong way after Dele Alli was brought down in the box.

Resolute at the back, we would maintain that slim lead into the second period before Harry would double both his and our tally after being picked out by Moussa’s searching ball.

The front man would then complete his seventh hat-trick of the calendar year as Dele teed him up in the box to slot the ball home.

Played for both

One of only five goalkeepers to have scored in a Premier League game, Paul Robinson made 175 appearances for us in four years at White Hart Lane and later appeared for Burnley in the 2016/17 season.

Born and raised in East Riding of Yorkshire, Robinson came through the youth system at Leeds United in the late 1990s and kept a clean sheet on his debut at Elland Road in a 0-0 draw with Chelsea in 1998.

Following United’s relegation to the Championship at the end of the 2003/04 season, the keeper joined us in north London and would become a mainstay of side for the next four seasons.

He would go on to join an elite list of goalkeepers to have scored a goal in the Premier League when he fired in from 80 yards against Watford in a 3-1 triumph back in March, 2007, before being part of the side which lifted the League Cup in 2008.

That summer, the England international moved to Blackburn Rovers for a seven-year spell before moving to their local rivals Burnley in 2016, stepping in to play three games for the Clarets before retiring from professional football in July, 2017.

Speaking to the media ahead of Saturday's encounter, Burnley boss Dyche admitted he's expecting even more from his squad this weekend as they look to extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League to eight games.

“There is still lots of work to be done but we are in a better place than we were. But we have to continue in that vein,” he said.

“We don’t run away with ourselves because things can change quickly, but the players deserve credit and they are certainly grounded enough to know there’s more to come.”
