Davinson Sanchez supports inclusive tournament

Thu 21 February 2019, 16:48|Tottenham Hotspur

During this week’s February half-term, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation hosted an inclusive football tournament for 40 disabled and non-disabled children aged between 12 and 16.

The tournament was attended by teams made up of non-disabled and disabled children from other Premier League and English Football League community schemes including Arsenal, West Ham and Leyton Orient.

Tottenham Hotspur is one of the first Premier League Clubs to provide opportunities for people with disabilities to play sport with non-disabled people and regularly runs inclusive sessions throughout the Club’s local community.

Today (Thursday), Davinson Sanchez paid a visit to New River Sports Centre where he met youngsters competing in the tournament and offered them words of advice and encouragement before giving out medals to the winning team.

Tottenham Hotspur Foundation entered three teams which were made up of children from our Premier League Kicks programme, which uses the power of football to help young people who are at risk of becoming involved in anti-social behaviour or crime, and our Equalities and Inclusion programme, which provides sport to help people with complex needs stay physically active.

Davinson said: “Events such as today’s tournament are a brilliant way of bringing children from different parts of the Club’s local community together, giving them the opportunity to play football together. It’s been great to see the youngsters learning new skills, growing in confidence and most importantly of all, having fun together.”

Gareth Jones, Equalities and Inclusion Manager, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, said: “We pride ourselves on ensuring that all our programmes are accessible for people with disabilities, especially our Premier League Kicks sessions that we run every evening in Tottenham. It’s important for us to create a level playing field in all of our community work and encourage youngsters to play together in a safe and inclusive environment.”
