Jan Vertonghen made the delivery of goods donated by the Club’s staff and players to two local Foodbanks this afternoon (Thursday 19 December).

The defender visited North Enfield Foodbank and the new Tottenham Foodbank at Tottenham Town Hall with a variety of cereals, tinned food, nappies and toiletries donated during the Christmas period.

Christmas visits to the Foodbank have become something of an annual tradition for Jan. He made his first visit to North Enfield in 2015 and was so impressed by the work of volunteers at the Foodbank that he makes a personal commitment to visit and deliver goods in his own time throughout the year.

Volunteers and clients, many of whom are Spurs fans, were delighted to see Jan’s arrival before he headed to Tottenham Town Hall and the new Tottenham Foodbank, run by Crutch Haringey.

Opened earlier this year, Tottenham Foodbank also holds collections for fans to donate to on home matchdays, held at Tottenham Community Sports Centre, nearby the stadium.

Jan said: “Donating to the Foodbanks is really important to me – there is nothing more impactful than knowing the goods that we deliver are going directly to those that need them the most.

“I had the pleasure of meeting a young lady at one of the Foodbanks today – she told me the food we have donated today will make Christmas for her and her daughters.

“It’s an incredible thought that you can take 15 minutes out of your day to drop some things off at the Foodbank and it will have that big an impact on somebody’s life.”
