Hugo Lloris: “Ambition is very high at our Club”

Sat 10 August 2019, 13:26|Tottenham Hotspur

Fifteen seasons down and nothing changes for Hugo Lloris. The fire burns as brightly as ever for our captain and number one as he prepares to kick-off season number 16 and his eighth campaign here at Spurs against Villa (5.30pm).

Hugo made his debut for Nice back in 2005 and joined us from Lyon in 2012. Now 32 and a World Cup winner, the goalkeeper is two matches away from reaching the 300-appearance milestone for the Club.

“Time is running faster!” he smiled as he sat down for what is now an annual captain’s preview of the season. “I’m still as hungry as ever, of course. I have shown my loyalty to the Club for many years now, I feel good and I feel the same ambition as when I arrived.

“I also feel the big improvement of the Club, that’s most important for me. I think the determination and the ambition is very high at our Club."

“We all know the competitiveness of the Premier League and the Champions League. It’s not easy to win that type of competition, but I think we have reduced the gap and now it’s all about details, finding the right way to come even closer.

“It’s a new start, a new season and we are all looking forward to this new season. We will do our best to share great moments with our fans.”

Today represents the first time Hugo will start a season at Spurs with a home game as we take on newly-promoted Villa.

He added: “This stadium represents so much for the Club’s new history and to start the season inside this stadium will be a very good feeling – but it can only be good if you win, so it’s up to the players now to put in the right energy and intensity into a performance to get the three points.”
