Taking in his new surroundings and looking forward to hooking up with the squad today, Giovani Lo Celso told us how it was an ‘easy decision’ to join the Club.

We’ve secured a season-long loan signing of the attacking midfielder from Real Betis with an option to make the transfer permanent.

Formerly with Rosario Central and PSG, Giovani impressed for Los Verdiblancos in Spain last season where he scored 16 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions. He has also been capped 19 times by Argentina.

This is a very big club with plenty of history. I’m very happy to be here and ready to give my all

“It was an easy decision to make,” said Giovani. “It’s a club that plays in the Champions League every year, has an incredible stadium, a top-level training centre, a coaching team of Argentines that showed interest in me, and that was very important for my final decision.

“When a manager such as Mauricio Pochettino targets you it’s important so I’m very happy, enjoying this moment and hope that it works out for the best as far as everyone is concerned.

“This is a very big club with plenty of history. There’s a great project ahead which is why I’m here. The team got to the final of the last Champions League which is no mean feat. As I said, I’m very happy to be here and ready to give my all.”

What will Giovani bring to the squad? For fans who may not have seen him in action, we asked him to describe his playing style. “I’m a left-footed midfielder, more attack-minded. I can cover several roles in midfield, always trying to help the team. I’m joining a club with great players of very high quality. I hope I can give them my support and that we can grow together. I’m looking forward to meeting them too.”

And his targets for the season? “We all hope it’s a very positive season. We have plenty of targets that the club has set - to finish as high as possible in the Premier League and go as far as possible in the Champions League.

“We know that last year we were just one step away in the final, and we all hope that this year we can go one better.”
