Mauricio Pochettino took plenty of positives out of a ‘professional performance’ and 4-0 victory against Huddersfield Town at the new stadium on Saturday.
The manager made seven changes to the team that started the 1-0 win against City in the Champions League on Tuesday night – three enforced due to injury – yet the transition between matches was seamless as we moved back into third in the Premier League.
Lucas Moura led the way with his own slice of Club history and the first hat-trick at our new home. He scored goals two, three and four after Victor Wanyama, back in for only his third start in the Premier League this term, opened the scoring.
We were always on top, Victor’s opener and Lucas’ first goal midway through the first half settled any doubts and Lucas completed his treble with lethal finishes in the 87th and 93rd minutes.
Lucas scored a hat-trick and will take the headlines but the collective job was amazing
“I’m so pleased,” said Mauricio. “It was a difficult game beforehand but the players were very good, very focussed. There are a lot of positives. The stadium is fantastic and our fans are amazing. It’s a very good afternoon for everyone.
“You win or lose, play with one or another player, one or another set-up but football makes you realise it’s about team, squad and belief. After that, individual performances arrive.
“I always talk about the collective and I’m happy with everyone, the collective job was amazing.”
