Huddersfield analysis from the Yorkshire Post

Preview from the Press Box

Huddersfield Town arrive at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday playing for pride, with their relegation after a two-year stay in the top flight confirmed back on 30 March.

Richard Sutcliffe, Chief Football Writer at The Yorkshire Post, gives us an insight on what he thinks we might be able to expect in our latest ‘Preview from the Press Box’…

Huddersfield’s recent form

Richard: “Dreadful, I am afraid. The last 20 league games have included 18 defeats and the shattering of any confidence among the players. The end of the season cannot come fast enough for Huddersfield Town.”

Huddersfield boss Jan Siewert and his tactics

Richard: “He arrived in January with Town's fate more or less sealed, even allowing for how many games were left. One particularly cruel defeat at Fulham in the final game of 2018 had knocked the stuffing out of Huddersfield's players and a revival looked beyond them.

“Siewert has tried to introduce a more attack-minded approach. But injuries and illness have disrupted his plans. He prefers 4-3-3 but most of the time the available personnel has dictated Town go with either a midfield diamond or 4-4-1-1.”

Town’s key men

Richard: “Aaron Mooy has been Town's talisman for three years. But even the Australian's form has tailed off, not helped by being played in a wider role than suits him in recent weeks. Karlan Grant has done well since arriving from Charlton Athletic in January.”

Prediction

Richard: “Maybe Spurs will ease off with next week's Champions League game in mind. Let's hope so, anyway. If not, a 3-0 defeat for Huddersfield, whose travelling fans will at least be able to drown their sorrows at a stadium that can serve over 6,000 pints a minute!”
