Hugo Lloris made his Spurs debut in the group stages of the Europa League back in 2012. Now 51 European appearances down the line, he’s set to lead us out in the semi-finals of the Champions League after a ‘crazy’ night at City.

The goalkeeper certainly played his part as we progressed on away goals following a thrilling 4-4 draw on aggregate.

He made a decisive save from Sergio Aguero’s early penalty as we won the first leg 1-0 last week and then made a world-class save to keep out Kevin De Bruyne in the second half at the Etihad. He also clung onto a late Aguero header in that nerve-shredding finale.

“I feel very proud,” said the skipper. “It was a crazy night. Football can be crazy sometimes. It was up and down in terms of emotion but at the end, the first leg made the difference, not conceding a goal was very important at home and helped us to reach the semi-final.

“It’s a great opportunity for the Club and for a lot of players because we are not used to being at this stage of the competition.

“We showed a lot of character and personality in the second half. We suffered a lot, like we expected to, but we always kept the belief and that’s why we are going through, and thanks to Fernando, he made the difference with his header.”

Typically, Hugo was looking ahead straight away. We return to the Etihad to face City in a vital Premier League game on Saturday (12.30pm) as we park that UCL semi-final for the time being to concentrate on our goal of finishing in the top four again.

“It’s a great moment to enjoy but we don’t have too much time, we play every three or four days and that’s the same until the end of the season,” added Hugo.

“You know it’s our ambition to reach the top four and we want to make our history even bigger for the Club in the Champions League.

“It’s probably one of the best nights since I’ve been at the Club but we don’t want to stop, we need to keep believing. We want to live again a great night like this and share it with our fans because they deserve the best.”
