Winksy: "Every game I play for Spurs is a dream"

Tue 18 September 2018, 09:35|Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Winks will relish every minute if selected in the San Siro tonight - just like he does every time he pulls on a Spurs shirt.

We kick-off this season’s Champions League campaign with our Group B opener against Italian giants Inter at one of Europe’s most famous arenas at 5.55pm UK time.

Back to full fitness after a lengthy injury lay-off, home-grown midfielder Harry, 22, hopes to step back on the stage he describes as ‘the pinnacle’, and the stage where he impressed so much last season.

'Winksy' started five of the six games as we topped a group including holders and eventual-winners Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.

Having made his breakthrough the season before - making 33 appearances in all competitions - Harry’s displays against Real home and away underlined again what he’s all about.

Unfortunately, injury sidelined him for the last 16 ties against Juventus and eventually ended his season in February.

But he’s back, made his first start in the Premier League since December against Liverpool on Saturday and is raring to go for Europe’s elite competition.

When you play Inter in the San Siro in the Champions League it's a game you have to relish...you have to grasp that moment

Asked if it was a dream to play in the Champions League at the San Siro, the childhood Spurs fan from Hemel Hempstead replied: "All of these games are a dream when I play for Spurs, every game.

"When you play Inter in the San Siro in the Champions League it's a game you have to relish because they don’t come around that often. If you get that chance, you have to grasp that moment.

"Inter at the San Siro is a great opportunity to put things right after Liverpool and to get off to a positive start in the Champions League."

Winksy admitted the joy of his first start in the Premier League for almost nine months against Liverpool was quickly dampened by the 2-1 loss on Saturday.

"It was brilliant to hear I was starting, great for me," he reflected. "I’ve worked so hard so to get back in and get a start in a game like that was brilliant.

"But all of that gets taken away when you lose. It would have been great to get a win or to come away with something right at the end and the result puts a downer on everything. Nothing else matters. Everyone was disappointed and we want to put it right and get a positive result in the San Siro."
