Passion 4 Coaching, a programme that trains youngsters within the Club’s local community to become volunteer coaches, is being supported by the Sir Stanley Matthews Coaching Foundation and the BT Supporters Club.

Our manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has given his input to the project that sees 16 to 24-year-olds with a desire to become football coaches recruited through the Foundation’s existing outreach work and taken on a training course covering safeguarding, delivering effective coaching drills, equality and inclusion.

The Sir Stanley Matthews Coaching Foundation was established in 2000 after the death of one of English football’s all-time greats who was capped more than 50 times by his country and played top level club football up until the age of 50.

His Foundation creates opportunities for youngsters to develop their sporting disciplines, giving them access to high-class sporting experiences in their local schools and sport clubs, as well as helping to train coaches in several different sports.

To acknowledge their support of the programme, members of Sir Stanley’s family met with Mauricio at the Club’s Training Centre. They were joined by two young coaches who have successfully completed the first phase of Passion 4 Coaching and staff from Tottenham Hotspur Foundation.

Jadon, 18, has successfully completed his FA Level 1 coaching badge and is now working towards his Level 2 qualification. He has recently been hired as a coach at the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and works with children who attend our Premier League Kicks sessions.

Kairoah, 16, is working towards his FA Level 1 whilst coaching a community football team in Northumberland Park and studying at Haringey Sixth Form College.

Jean Matthews, Patron of Sir Stanley Matthews Coaching Foundation and Sir Stanley’s daughter, said: “Through my father’s legacy, our aim is to give youngsters access to sport and train coaches in a number of sporting disciplines including football, so it seemed very fitting to help fund Passion 4 Coaching.

"We are delighted to be working with Tottenham Hotspur, its Foundation and Mauricio to give young coaches the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills which will benefit football players in their local community.”

Mauricio said: “Passion 4 Coaching gives young people the opportunity to learn new skills, improve their self-confidence and change their lives for the better. Being involved in this programme is really important to me and I am pleased that with the additional support from the Sir Stanley Matthews Coaching Foundation we are able to train more local people to be coaches.”
