Keano: 'This is the only Club where I really feel at home'

The smile said it all really. Robbie Keane was back at Spurs and back at the scene of his greatest moment for the Club he loves.

A modern-day legend with 306 appearances in two spells over nine years, ‘Keano’ stood on the touchline at Wembley Stadium before the season’s finale against Leicester City and it was all coming flooding back - the day we beat Chelsea to land the League Cup in 2008.

The smile was ear to ear as he recalled his emotional dash across the Wembley turf on the final whistle that day, a moment caught on the TV cameras. The look on his face said everything you needed to know about what it meant.

A little glance over his shoulder and it was all coming back...

“When you are growing up, the dream is to play at Wembley and to play against an unbelievable team like Chelsea at that time... the relief I felt when I heard the final whistle... to win something was tremendous,” he said.

“The odds were against us but we had the better team on the day and the celebrations... the moments straight after the game... it was great for everyone.”

Keano scored 122 goals in his 306 games – one of 17 players to score 100-plus for Spurs, Harry Kane the latest to pass the milestone in 2017-18 – and what memories he has at the Club he calls home.

“I had an unbelievable time here with so many great people around the Club and it’s always great to see everyone,” he added.

“It’s amazing to go back to a club… this is the only club where I really feel at home.

“To go and win something for the Club tipped it off for me and it’s great to see the Club going from strength to strength.

“My young lad is a Spurs fan as well and that really says it all, it goes to show in my family where the loyalties lie.”
