Our Global Football Development team have been busy across San Diego and California, rolling out a series of coaching programmes that we will be delivering alongside our USA tour.
On Tuesday we launched a new Talent Identification camp with San Diego Surf Soccer Club, offering talented local young players the opportunity of a lifetime – to travel to Los Angeles and watch our first team train and play against Barcelona at the Rose Bowl next week.
The Tottenham Hotspur Global Football Development staff worked with 100 players across the two-day programme at Surf Cup Sports Park in San Diego, focusing on finding and developing young soccer players. These were whittled down to a lucky 12 who were selected to make the trip north to LA.
On Thursday, our Global Football Development staff delivered a ‘Coach the Coaches’ workshop to over 100 coaches from San Diego Surf Soccer Club and their selected affiliate youth soccer club coaches.
They followed that on Friday by working with two more local Californian teams, SGV Surf and Inland Empire Surf, to deliver a session for young players from more disadvantaged backgrounds.
Andy Rogers, our Head of Global Football Development, said: “It is fantastic for us to be working with San Diego Surf and offering such a great opportunity to so many local young players and coaches. We have seen the passion for soccer locally and our coaches are looking forward to working with and developing young players across the region. We take great pride in not only developing young players and coaches but making a real difference and having a lasting, positive impact on the communities we visit.”
Speaking after Friday’s session, DJ Vigil, Director of Performance for Inland Empire Surf, said: “Today was an extraordinary event for the players and families of both IE and SGV Surf. This event was a sign of inspiration and hope for a community that faces some of the worst economic conditions nationally. We at IE and SGV Surf would like to thank the Tottenham Hotspur FC coaching staff for hosting an absolute stellar session where our players were treated to a true professional experience.”
