Oliver Skipp admitted it was a dream come true to make his first start for us against Burnley.

The Academy prospect was buzzing when he found out he would be in the team at Wembley for Saturday's Premier League clash and Christian Eriksen’s last-gasp winner provided the ideal finish for the 18-year-old and his watching family.

“It’s a great result. To get the winner right at the end – that has topped off a great day for me and it’s another important three points in the league,” he said.

“This is the dream; a Spurs fan with my family here supporting me – it’s perfect really. I couldn’t have wished for a better day.”

'Skippy' was ecstatic when he found out he would be starting and justified Mauricio Pochettino’s faith with a composed, mature display before Heung-Min Son replaced him with 15 minutes remaining.

“I knew about an hour-and-a-half before kick-off (that he was going to play). We were going through the usual team meeting and I saw my name on the teamsheet - I was just delighted," he revealed.

“Obviously I felt nervous but I’m happy to have gained the manager’s trust and that he can trust me in a Premier League fixture.”

Oliver Skipp on his first start in the Premier League

Oliver made his debut in our 3-1 Carabao Cup win at West Ham United in October before making his Premier League bow as a second-half substitute in the 3-1 win over Southampton.

That capped a swift rise to prominence for another ‘One of our Own’, coming off the back of being named Premier League 2 Player of the Month for September.

“All the hours in the Academy are preparing you for a moment like this,” adds Oliver. “I can only thank the coaches who have been involved in my development and have helped me get to this stage.”

The match proved to be another vital lesson for the England Under-18 international, who agreed a new contract with the Club until 2021 back in August, and he had the chance to learn from the very best when Christian came off the bench to play alongside him in the second half on Saturday.

“It was a tough fixture, tough to break them down,” he said. “They came here with a block but we had to be patient. We knew chances would come and we just had to take them when they presented themselves.

“That’s Christian’s second last-minute goal! It just shows the depth of the squad when you can bring on players like Christian Eriksen to change a game and provide that winning moment. It meant everything. I was delighted we could get a win to top off my debut.”
