Tottenham HotspurIt was a special enough day anyway in the Pochettino household but Mauricio departed Goodison Park for his anniversary celebrations with a 6-2 victory in the bag and third place in the Premier League at Christmas.
Mauricio was quick to point out how, incredibly, the scoreline (Everton 2-6 Spurs) matched his and wife Karina’s 26th anniversary - this really was an incredible afternoon in the blue half of Merseyside.
We started brightly but found ourselves 1-0 down on 21 minutes. Our response was decisive as goals from Heung-Min Son, Dele and Harry Kane - following in a Kieran Trippier free-kick that hit the post - put us in the driving seat, 3-1 up at the break.
Three was soon 4-1 with a trademark Christian Eriksen strike, Everton hit back immediately for 4-2 but both Sonny and Harry doubled up to leave us convincing 6-2 victors.

It was a display to remember coming hot on the heels of last week’s derby win at Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

“It was so tough because we started the game really well, we created a lot of chances and then we conceded. We were down but the team spirit was fantastic to come back. It was amazing in the end, the performance.
“Overall, the 90 minutes were fantastic, nothing more to say. Of course, disappointed with the two goals we conceded. That is football. Everton are a very good team, you can always concede some chances but after Wednesday, that performance was fantastic.”
As for his anniversary, Mauricio beamed: “Yes, we need to go home! It was 26 years ago, my wedding and look today, the scoreline – 2-6! Unbelievable! We talk about coincidence sometimes. I will use that as a present to my wife!”
