How to get the most out of our new-look website

Fri 07 December 2018, 13:50|Tottenham Hotspur

During the summer we launched our new and improved official website – we have received some fantastic feedback and hope fans are enjoying the many new features available.

We want to make sure as many fans as possible are aware of the improvements we have made and can make the most of their visitor experience.

Here are a few key points:

  • Our new website has been built with all devices and connection speeds in mind. Pages now load on average approximately twice as fast as the old website, plus the use of responsive design enables fans to have an optimal experience across mobile, desktop and tablet devices. Browsing on a slow connection? Not a problem - the website uses a cutting-edge codebase that allows only the key page elements to be loaded from our servers when there is limited bandwidth, without compromising the experience for the user.

  • The homepage has been dramatically redesigned after rigorous user testing and feedback from fan focus groups. Here, fans will find everything that is most important to them today - similar to a social media timeline rather than a traditional homepage. Underneath the day’s top story, we only show the three most recent news articles to keep page-load speed quick. However, if you want to see more articles, simply hit ‘show more’ to load further stories – you can do this as many times as you like until you find what you are looking for. If you scroll further down the homepage, you will find today’s Media Watch, details of the last and next match, latest match highlights, the most popular recent Spurs TV features and Stadium News. If you don’t wish to scroll down or use our navigation in the top left of the homepage, you can just select one of our Quick Links – Shop, Tickets, Media Watch or Spurs TV – that sit just underneath the top story. Those with visual impairments can use our accessibility toggle at the very top of the homepage to make the site easier to read.

  • You will notice the use of hashtags on news articles and videos. These are a handy way to direct you to stand alone pages which host all articles and videos past and present relevant to the hashtag. For example, if you click #MauricioPochettino you will see every article and video ever featuring our Manager in chronological order. Or click #MoussaSissoko if you can’t get enough of our midfield powerhouse at the moment. Similarly, you can view up-to-date videos by clicking hashtags like #SpursTV and #MatchHighlightsThe navigation will show you the latest trending topics so you can see what other fans are talking about – for example, today’s leading topic is #Leicester in anticipation of tomorrow night's match.

  • Navigation has been a key improvement within the new site. We swapped over 170 navigation items for less than 10 in order to de-clutter the experience and help you find what you are looking for faster. Less clicks enable faster browsing and encourage use of the search functionality to find what you want quickly.

  • In the top-left menu, click ‘Matches’ for details on our latest results and upcoming fixtures; ‘Teams’ for profiles on all players across all our teams from First Team to Academy; ‘Tickets and Premium’ to purchase match tickets or check your membership account; ‘Fans’ for more on how to become a Member, join or form an Official Supporters’ Club and enter competitions to win exclusive prizes; and ‘Shop Spurs’ to select from our range of Club merchandise, including Nike kit. For everything else, we have the sub-headings – The Club, The Stadium and Ask Spurs, where you will be able to find answers to anything you need to know.

  • Our new and improved Match Day Centre is where you need to be for all First Team matches. Here, you can follow live match updates plus all the stats and live scores from other games as the action plays out, as well as audio commentary from BBC Radio London. The interactive ‘Line Up’ tab will give you key individual stats for each player on both teams that update real time during the game. Our new and improved ‘Stats’ centre allows you to analyse data including possession, goal attempts, average player positions, player heat maps and more.

  • If you want find out more about any of our players, we’ve redesigned our player profile pages to bring them up-to-date and make it easier to find key information. This features biographies for all players from the First Team, Under 23s, Under 18s and Spurs Ladies. For First Team players there’s also an array of season stats at your fingertips including games / minutes played, defence, attack and distribution data. Alongside the player’s biography and picture gallery, you will also find all news articles and videos using their hashtag.

We are continually looking to improve the user experience for our website and value your feedback, so please tell us what you are most enjoying about the new site or send us your suggestions for any improvements we could make by completing our survey.
