Heung-Min Son scored the winner as South Korea beat Kyrgyzstan to make it out of the group stage at the Asian Games today (Monday).
South Korea only needed a point from their final Group E game to book their place in the round of 16 and captain Sonny delivered with the only goal in the 63rd minute.
The Koreans started their campaign with a thumping 6-0 victory against Bahrain last Wednesday before a surprise 2-1 defeat against Malaysia on Friday, with Sonny an unused substitute in the first game before stepping off the bench in the 57th minute in the second.
The victory against Kyrgyzstan ensured they finished second to Malaysia in the section and they will now take on Iran on Thursday (23 August) for a place in the last eight.
The quarter-finals and semi-finals take place on 26/27 and 29 August respectively before the tournament finishes with the Gold Medal match on 1 September.
