Foundation delivers coaching programme in India

Fri 17 August 2018, 14:19|Tottenham Hotspur

The Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, in partnership with Slum Soccer, a charity that uses football to improve the lives of homeless people in India, is this month delivering a football coaching clinic for young people aged between 11 and 17 years old in Nagpur, central India.

The programme, which is funded by the Premier League International Development Fund, is designed not only to improve the football skills of the children, but also helps to develop positive behaviour, build their self-esteem and steer them away from potential unemployment or crime.

Later this year, the coaches will return to Nagpur to work closely with staff from Slum Soccer to identify community champion coaches who will then continue to run the programme once the Foundation coaches return to the UK. In addition to this, two students from the Foundation’s Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award will also travel to Nagpur to deliver a football tournament for the youngsters.

The Premier League International Development Fund is a new international collaboration fund which aims to use the power of football to develop a bright future for young people in some of the poorest areas of the world and improve community engagement.

Richard Allicock, Community Development Manager at the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, said: “To date we have run several successful programmes in India, including the ‘Premier Skills’ programme we delivered earlier this year in Guwahati in North East India. We are delighted to be supporting a fantastic charity such as Slum Soccer and we hope that the work we do together helps to give children living in the slums a chance to play football and a better quality of life.”

We are delighted to be collaborating with Tottenham Hotspur Foundation to help us grow our programme.
