Winks, Sissoko, Georgiou and Kane react to 'great' APOEL victory

Wed 27 September 2017, 12:48|Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko looked back on a job well done while young winger Anthony Georgiou was left to reflect on an “amazing” first team debut after Tuesday night's 3-0 victory over APOEL.

Midfielder Harry, who has been impressive in our recent outings, took another step in the right direction with a fine performance from the start in the centre of the park, while Moussa capped another solid individual performance with an assist for the second of Harry Kane's three goals.

Anthony, meanwhile, came on for Moussa in the closing stages to mark his first senior competitive outing after impressing against Roma during our pre-season tour of the United States.

Here's what the players had to say after the game in Nicosia...

Harry Winks

Thoughts on the game
"It was a great result, one we needed and on a personal note as well, I'm just delighted to get another 90 minutes under my belt. My ankle feels really good and credit to Harry (Kane) as well for the hat-trick, he was excellent. It was tough in the first half, they sat off us and made it difficult but when you've got someone like Harry – and that pass from Toby (Alderweireld) – he can change a game in a second. It's so important to get the first goal, it settles everything down and the crowd as well. Once we scored, we never looked back and it was a good performance from then on."

On his latest European experience

"I love it, love it! It's what you dream of as a kid, to play in the Champions League. To listen to that music, it's something you dream about as a kid and to actually experience it is phenomenal. I love every minute of it and that's what I try to do when I'm out there, relish every moment."

On where we stand ahead of Huddersfield on Saturday
"We've done really well so far in the Champions League and the Premier League so we'll be full of confidence. We'll also have players coming back in so it will be a great game."

Moussa Sissoko

On the result
"To come here and win 3-0 is not easy. We knew it was going to be tough. APOEL started well and hit the crossbar but we stayed focused and won 3-0 so it was the perfect night. In the Champions League every game is going to be tough. You have to play every game like a final. That’s what we did against Dortmund and now APOEL and we’ve got six points, the perfect start."

On his own personal form
"Since the beginning of the season I’m playing a lot and I’m happy. Like I said, I had a good pre-season so that has made a difference. Then when you play you get more confidence game by game and it’s easier to play with these players. I’m very happy at the moment and I hope to improve more. It’s a great moment for me and I want it to keep going like that. I will try to do more and more every game. The season is still long and I need to stay focused, train hard and to give everything."

Anthony Georgiou

On his senior debut
“It feels amazing to make my debut and to do it in the Champions League as well is a dream come true really. It’s also nice to do it in Cyprus as I have a lot of family from here. It’s unbelievable! Everybody dreams of playing in the Champions League, it’s the biggest competition in club football, so it’s really a dream come true. It’s a proud moment for me and family."

On the other players in the squad
"It’s amazing to get to play with quality players like this and to get a chance here is something you have to work really hard for, so I’m grateful and I thank the gaffer for trusting in me and giving me the opportunity. It’s always good to have some of your friends around you who you’ve come through the ranks with as well. Obviously I’m quite close with them and it’s great to experience this with all of them. I’m grateful to get my opportunity tonight and, of course, I want to carry on training hard and I hope I can earn more chances in the future."

Harry Kane

On the pattern of the game
"When you come away in the Champions League it's always going to be difficult. They came out strong, had the fans on their side, hit the bar and had chances. The first goal is always vital, especially in away games and it was great to get that just before half-time. After that, we were just more clinical in the vital areas and once we got the second and third, it killed them off. Credit to APOEL, they did well and we could have done better, especially in the first half, but a 3-0 result against anyone away is a great result."

On the current standings in Group H
"The win puts us in a great spot but it's by no means over. We've got some tough games coming up, Madrid the next one and we have to go there with the same confidence and try to get a result. I'm looking forward to it."
