A closer look at the contribution of our three players on England duty in Israel - Paul Robinson, Aaron Lennon and Jermain Defoe.

Steve McClaren opted to play Lennon on the left wing for his first start in a 4-4-2 system with Robinson back in goal and Defoe on the bench for the Euro 2008 qualifier in Tel Aviv.

9mins: Lennon's first burst down the left, cross drifted behind goal.

15mins: Lennon looked to take off again but taken out by Benardo, who had already been booked but got away with it.

17mins: Another Lennon dart to the byline, this time stood up lovely cross for Rooney to attack, not enough on header to trouble Israel keeper Aouate.

27mins: Robinson called into serious action for the first time - and only time - as Tamuz drilled a low shot heading for the bottom corner but Robbo dived low to his right to make save.

33mins: Another burst from Lennon, this time fully 50 yards and cross led to Gerrard shooting opportunity blocked by Ben Haim.

37mins: Lennon perfectly-weighted pass as supporting Carragher attacked box, led to corner.

60mins: First time Lennon had a chance to run at defence in second half, Aouate did well to reach cross under pressure.

66mins: Lennon created one of the best chances of the game, whipped in cross from left found Lampard but midfielder glanced header wide.

79mins: Defoe entered the fray for Johnson.

83mins: Lennon departs, replaced by Downing.

84mins: Defoe's one and only chance, typical work in box to work a yard of space after Rooney knock down, had to take shot quickly from close range and Aouate out to make good save.

International round-up

Elsewhere, Robbie Keane captained the Republic of Ireland in their first international at Croke Park, the home of the Gaelic Athletic Association. Over 72,00 watched as he set-up the winner for Stephen Ireland in the 1-0 victory against Wales in Euro 2008 qualifying. However, he later picked up a yellow card and is now suspended for Wednesday's qualifier against Slovakia.

Tom Huddlestone was a second half substitute for England U21s in the first international at the new Wembley Stadium. Wayne Routledge - on loan at Fulham - was on target in the 3-3 draw against Italy with goalkeeper Ben Alnwick an unused substitute.

Lee Young-Pyo's South Korea didn't recover from a first half double from Carlos Bueno as the hosts went down 2-0 to Uruguay in Seoul.

Meanwhile, Kieran McKenna suffered a 2-0 reverse on Northern Ireland Under-21 duty in Romania.
