However, Anthony Gardner (hairline fracture, fibula) is the latest blow for the boss who is without goalkeeper Paul Robinson (thigh), Jermaine Jenas (groin), Ledley King (foot), Danny Murphy (Achilles) and Benoit Assou-Ekotto (knee). The news was better on JJ as Martin said he might be available for Watford on Saturday.
Ricardo Rocha is also ineligible after playing for Benfica in the Champions League earlier in the season – Benfica now in the UEFA Cup.
With Rocha unavailable, Gardner and King out, Martin will have to re-jig his defensive line, but he has options. “We have a versatile squad, Pascal Chimbonda and Didier Zokora can both play in the centre and, if necessary, we also have Tom Huddlestone.
“Gardner is a blow but it’s also a challenge because we have players who can play in one or two positions. We also have Charlie Lee, captain of our reserves, in the squad as well.”
