Darren Anderton seeks to further his claims for a place in Sven Goran Eriksson's England World Cup squad this weekend when struggling Leicester City visit White Hart Lane in this crucial FA Barclaycard Premiership encounter.
Anderton will be hoping to prove he is worth a start in the forthcoming friendly international against Holland after Eriksson saw him impress in Spurs' comfortable midweek FA Cup win over Bolton.
The Londoners' longest-serving player opened the scoring when he rammed home from the penalty spot after Anthony Barness impeded him. Anderton also teed up Steffen Iversen for the second with a lovely lofted ball from the right and Trotters goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen could only palm his stinging drive into the path of Matthew Etherington for Spurs' third.
Little wonder that Anderton got a standing ovation when he was substituted 15 minutes from time on his 300th appearance for the first-team since joining from Portsmouth in the summer of 1992.
His opponent on Saturday, Leicester's Stefan Oakes, has to impose himself on the game to prevent his side from being overrun. The 23-year-old is part of a team who are five points adrift at the foot of the Premiership table and are slowly running out of games to save their top-flight status.
Oakes was not involved in the Foxes three league wins this season and has only just come into the side as a replacement for Dennis Wise, who is out for the rest of the campaign with a thigh injury.
The Leicester-born player claimed his first two assists of the season when his deliveries set up Jamie Scowcroft for his headed double against Chelsea last weekend, but it was not enough to prevent the Londoners from taking all three points with a goal in the last minute from Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.
The Foxes have not scored in London since a 6-1 defeat at Arsenal on Boxing Day of last season and if you think Oakes can prompt the side to break that trend with a shock 1-0 win then online bookies surreysports.co.uk offer a generous 11/1 on Dave Bassett's team to win their third game on the road in 2001-02.
But Anderton, who is the only Spurs player to have appeared in every single Premiership game this season and whose 388 successful passes in the final third has only been bettered by Robert Pires, will attempt to make it an extremely uncomfortable afternoon for Oakes and his Leicester team-mates.
