20 October 2014|Tottenham Hotspur
It's now less than a week until we celebrate the life of the one and only Bill Nicholson at Sunday's Premier League fixture against Newcastle United at White Hart Lane.
The most influential figure in the Club's history, Bill gave everything to Spurs from initially arriving for a trial in 1936 and his full debut as a player aged 19 in 1938 through to his days as President and his sad passing on October 23, 2004.
After helping the famous 'push and run' team to the Second and First Division titles in consecutive years in 1949-50 and 1950-51, Bill took over as manager in 1958 and led us to the league and cup double in 1960-61, retained the FA Cup in 1962 and then guided us to the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1963. In doing so, we became the first British club to win a European trophy.
Another FA Cup followed in 1967, two League Cups in 1971 and 1973 and the UEFA Cup in 1972.
The Club will mark the 10-year anniversary of Bill's passing on Thursday before paying homage to his contribution to Spurs at Sunday's home game against Newcastle - the nearest home Premier League matchday, and a date organised both with his family, who will be our special guests for the afternoon, and the Premier League before our progress and subsequent fixture list in the Europa League.
This fixture also allows us to celebrate fully with our fans with tributes on the pitch and on the Jumbotron screens, given there are tighter restrictions on European evenings.
A special souvenir matchday programme has been produced and will include previously unseen photographs of Bill during his time at the Club.
We also have a commemorative pin badge that will be given away free - while stocks last - and fans will have the chance to sign a special Tribute Wall in our Megastore on the corner of Park Lane.
We will also be encouraging all fans to 'Wear White For Bill' - look out for more on this soon!
Finally, there will be a minute's applause as we celebrate Bill's life and times at Spurs, so please be in your seats in plenty of time to ensure you are there to pay tribute. A reminder, we kick-off at 1.30pm.
