Martin Jol explained that he didn't want to play Ledley King twice in three days at Wigan after the skipper's return against Sevilla on Thursday.
Instead, Ricardo Rocha, available again after being ineligible for the UEFA Cup, came back into the side alongside Michael Dawson in central defence for the Premiership clash at the JJB.
The return leg against Sevilla last week marked Ledley's first appearance since Boxing Day after foot trouble.
"I couldn't take a risk with him playing twice in three days because he still had a bit of pain on Thursday," reported Martin after the 3-3 draw. "I would have liked him to have played but it was better not to."
