Starting for the first time this season following a thigh injury, Lancaster headed home to pull the score back to 2-1 as the game entered added time.

However, they were then caught searching for a late, late equaliser and Watford struck on the break for the final 3-1 scoreline.

"I thought we were poor in the first half but ironically we went in goalless at half-time," reported coach Alex Inglethorpe.

"We played a lot better in the second half but conceded off a set-piece and then Watford made it 2-0 with a couple of minutes left.

"Cameron Lancaster did well for our goal from a diagonal cross from Jack Barthram. I was pleased for Cameron, it was his first game of the season after picking up an injury in pre-season and he looked good. That was a positive.

"There was just enough time left for us to try and force an equaliser but unfortunately they scored again straight away.

"Watford always provide a real challenge, they play with a high tempo and make it difficult for you. Players have to solve problems quickly.

"It's a good test for this young team to see how they cope with that pressure because the further they go, that is exactly that they'll be up against."
