Kane collects fifth EA SPORTS Player of the Month award

Fri 13 October 2017, 11:00|Tottenham Hotspur

Harry Kane’s goal-laden September has seen him scoop the Premier League’s EA SPORTS Player of the Month award.

The striker bagged 13 goals for Club and country, including his 100th in a Spurs shirt in our 3-0 win at Everton and his first Champions League hat-trick as we won away to APOEL by the same scoreline.

Still only 24 years of age, he’s now lifted the award on five occasions, taking him level with Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie in second place for the highest amount of Premier League Player of the Month titles. Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard leads the way with six.

“It’s great to be up there with those sorts of names,” smiled Harry as he collected his latest prize. “Of course, there’s still a long way to go in my career so we’ll see what happens.

“I’m very pleased to get this award again and it’s something I’m very proud of. I give all the thanks to my team-mates, the manager and the staff – without them it’s not possible. Hopefully there’ll be more between now and the end of the season and I’ll just look to continue the form really.”

Harry famously went through the month of August without hitting the target before the floodgates opened at the start of September.

“I didn’t score for the whole of August and the first game in September I put a cross in and it went all the way in but that’s football, that’s the game and sometimes you’ve just got to go with it,” he explained.

“It’s part of being a striker. You’re going to go through spells where you don’t score. Sometimes it doesn’t go your way, it hits the post, the crossbar or whatever and that was what August was. It always seems to be in August every year so as a striker you’ve just got to stay strong and stay confident. You know the chances are going to come when you’re playing in this team so I was happy to turn it around and hopefully I can continue that for the rest of the season now.”

So what does Harry rate as his favourite goal in September?

“That first one at Everton, even though it was a flukey one – obviously it was my 100th for Spurs so that was a special one. Also the second one against Huddersfield (4-0 win) with the left foot – that was probably one of the best I’ve scored in my career to be fair. Those two were great.”
