'I've been itching to get back in' - Danny Rose

07 November 2017|Tottenham Hotspur

Danny Rose described his first start in the Premier League in almost 10 months as a ‘massive’ step.

The defender is back after a serious knee injury sustained against Sunderland on January 31.

He returned off the bench against Real Madrid in the Bernabeu, started against West Ham in the Carabao Cup and now 90 minutes - he actually went off for Ben Davies in the second minute of added time - as we toppled Palace 1-0 at Wembley.

“I’ve been itching to get back in,” said Danny, our longest-serving current player having joined us back in 2007.

“This is massive for me. I feel very good. It’s been hard mentally and I’m just grateful I’m back involved.

“Obviously I want to play every game but I know there is competition for places and it’s been great to see Ben doing ever so well while I’ve been injured.

“As I’ve said right from the beginning, there is no number one, there will be games when he’s playing and games when I’m playing and as long as we push each other to the limit it can only benefit the team.”

Capped 12 times, Danny is back in the England squad as well for high-profile friendlies against Germany on Friday and Brazil on Tuesday, both at Wembley.

He added: “Hopefully I can get a game with England and it can help me come back ready for the big derby (Arsenal, November 18) and another massive Champions League game after that (Borussia Dortmund, November 21).”
